Liannwan Shoes Cooperation was founded on March 8th, 1978 in
Taichung, Taiwan. Initially, there were only four workers, but
after two years, the number of employees had risen to thirty. In
1981, due to growing demand, the company moved to Chungha and
established a larger factory. At that time, more than two hundred
people were working to produce 100,000 pairs of shoes every month.
This was a golden time for the shoe industry in Taiwan.
However, due to several factors, the conditions became worse for
industries in Taiwan. Such factors include the appreciation of TND
(Taiwanese New Dollar) against dollar, the lack of labor, and the
enactment of the Labor Standards Act in 1984. All of these
negatively affected the Liannwan Shoes Cooperation. Then a turning
point came in 1991, when the company chose to establish a new
factory in Dongguang, China. By 1994, there were 1,600 employees
producing over 260,000 pairs of shoes in the new factory every
month.
Yet, the prosperity discovered in China did not last. In 2005, many
Chinese industries experienced labor shortages and economic
hardships. As a result, Linnawan decided in 2007 to establish a new
factory in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. The move to Vietnam has benefited
the company tremendously.
