Paulownia wood has high fire retardation and low thermalconductivity, and carbonized even if the wood caught fire. Therefore, in Japan, Paulownia boxes have been used to storevaluable things such as fine arts and crafts for long time. Also,Paulownia wood is very light, soft, fine-grained and has many othergood characteristics as follows:
(1) Natural insect repellent:
Paulonin and Sesamin, the elements in Paulownia wood can repelinsects.
(2) Rot resistance:
Since a large quantity of Tannin is in Paulownia wood, it is hardto rot even in the hot and humid climate of Japan, and has effectof preventing the growth of bacteria.
(3) Very low shrinkage rate:
Since the dried Paulownia wood has very little shrinkage rate, itis possible to make boxes without any gap. Therefore, the boxesintercept open air (airproof) and the inside environment is hardlyaffected by the difference of temperature and highhumidity.

In the high humidness, the Paulownia wood expands and fills thegaps to shut out the open air. When the air is dry, it shrinks andventilates.
