What is ShangRing?

The ShangRing is comprised of twoconcentric plastic rings: an inner ring and outer ring. The innerring lined with a soft silicone pad, leaving a smooth,nonbioreactive surface against the surgical wound. The outer ringconsists of two halves that are hinged together at one end andcontain a locking clasp on the other.

How to use ShangRing?
Before the procedure, correctsizing of the ShangRing is done using a penile circumferencemeasuring tape. In the event that a patient falls between twosizes, the larger size should be used.
The ShangRing procedure is asfollowed:
a. The inner ring is placedaround the penis to the level of the coronal sulcus.
b. After placing clamps on theforeskin at the 3, 6, 9, and 12 o’clock positions, the foreskin iscarefully everted over the inner ring.
c. The outer ring is placed overthe inner ring and closed to the first stop of the clamp, thussandwiching the foreskin between both rings.
d. The excess foreskin is excisedusing curved scissors.
e. Afterwards, using a scalpelblade, 10 to 12 slits are made in the foreskin on the underside ofthe ring at the 2, 5, 8, and 11 o’clock positions; these slits arenecessary to allow the skin to spread as healing occurs and toallow for expansion of the scab.
f. The wound is subjected tosustained circumferential pressure and the skin edges arejuxtaposed underside to underside rather than edge to edge. Thering is left in place for around 7 days.
How toremove the ring?
Removal of theShangRing.
a. The outer ring is unlocked andremoved using the ShangRing removal tool.
b. The inner ring is gentlyseparated from the wound margin and cut at the 3 and 9o’clock positions using special scissors that possess a blunttip and recessed cutting edges.
