| PlantDescription | Amur cork tree can grow up to 12 meters tall. It is deciduous treewith pale gray-brown, cork-like bark. The tree has shiny, darkgreen, pinnate leaves composed of 9-13 smaller leaves and the smallgreenish-yellow flowers grow in clusters. Male and female flowersare located on separate trees. The small round fruit is black incolour and has a strong scent of turpentine. | ||

Application
It has been used traditionally tolower fever andto reduce blood pressureandblood sugar levesl. It has strong antibacterial effect and has beenused internally to treat diarrhea,dysentery, enteritis, vaginal infections, acute urinarytract infections,abscesses, tumors, jaundice, night sweats and skindiseases.
It is one of the 50 most important herbs in Chinese herbalmedicine. It is one of the ingredients in the Chinese medicine Sanhuang zhe She ye ("injection of three yellow herbs"). The other twoherbs are Chinese goldthread (Coptis chinensis)and baikal skullcap (Scutellariabaicalensis). This herbal medicine is used internally to treatinfections of the upper respiratory tract.
Animalstudies have shown that this herb did lower blood pressure wheninjected directly into the bloodstream.
Amurcork tree bark has been used externally with some success forthe treatment of eczema around the ears.
Recently conductedresearch has shown that it can be useful in the treatment ofmeningitis and conjunctivitis. A preparation of the bark wasused to treat 20 cases of meningitis in patients who were betweenthe ages of 4 and 24. Those with mild symptoms showed improvementthe very first day, but it took an average of eight days before thesymptoms were completely gone. One study showed a positive effecton conjunctivitis in children, with the best results when using ahigh concentration of the herb.
