Product Introduction

Banaba is a medicinal plant that grows in Philippines, India,and Southeast Asia. Traditional uses include brewing tea from theleaves as a treatment for diabetes and hyperglycemia. Banabaextract is used as a natural health supplement and is made from theleaves of the banaba tree. Some research suggests that banabaextract may support blood sugar balance and weight loss. Theprimary active ingredient is corosolic acid, and there are alsonumerous possible synergists including lager-stroemin, flosin B andreginin A. The hypoglycemic (blood sugar lowering) effect of banabaleaf extract is similar to that of insulin which induces glucosetransport from the blood into body cells.As such, banaba plays arole in regulating levels of blood sugar and insulin in the blood.By keeping blood sugar and insulin levels in check, banaba extractmay be an effective supplement for promoting weight loss in certainindividuals. The blood sugar regulating properties of corosolicacid have been demonstrated in cell culture, animal and humanstudies. It is known to stimulate glucose uptake. In diabetic mice,rats and rabbits, banaba extract feeding reduces elevated bloodsugar and insulin levels to normal. In humans with type IIdiabetes, banaba extract, has been shown to be effective inreducing blood sugar levels and maintaining tighter control ofblood sugar fluctuations. An interesting (side-effect) of tightercontrol of blood sugar and insulin levels is a significant tendencyof banaba to promote weight loss without significant dietaryalterations. It is likely that modulation of glucose and insulinlevels reduces total caloric intake somewhat and encouragesmoderate weight loss.
