Definition:
Inulins are a group of naturally occurringpolysaccharides produced by many types of plants.
They belong to a class of fibers known as fructans. Inulin is usedby some plants as a means of storing energy and is typically foundin roots or rhizomes. Most plants that synthesize and store inulindo not store other materials such as starch.

Inulin is used to help measure kidney functionby determining the glomerular filtration rate (GFR). GFR is thevolume of fluid filtered from the renal (kidney) glomerularcapillaries into the Bowman''s capsule per unit time.
