Caststeel shots & grits are non-hazardous as received. Finemetallic dust is generated as the abrasives break down fromimpact & wear during normal use. Since the ferrouscontent is > 95% dust or fumes will consists mainly of iron or iron oxide. In addition, the fine steel dust created can bea mild explosion hazard.

Steelshot blasting is the most widely used process in sand &shot blasting industries for cleaning, stripping andimproving a metal surface. The grade or size of steel shotwill determine the finish achieved on the surface of the metal.
Smaller steel shot will result in a smoother and morepolished surface. Larger steel shot will clean more aggressively but produce a rougher surface. Both air poweredand wheel blast machine can be used to accelerate the steelshot onto the surface of the part. Due to the hardness anddensity of steel shot, it can be recycled as much as 3000times before replacement. Since steel shot does not use anabrasives process, a minimal amount of dust is created in theblasting process.

STEEL SHOTPEENING Shot peening is a cold working process inwhich the surface of a spring is bombarded with smallspherical media called steel shot. Each piece of shotstriking the surface creates a small indentation or dimple.Overlapping dimples develop an even layer of metal in residual compressive stress. Fatigue cracks will not startor propagate in a compressively stressed zone. When aresidual compressive stress is produced in the surface, thetensile stress created by the applied load must firstovercome the residual compressive stress before the resultantsurface stress becomes tensile.
Steel shots are spherical shaped product made of carbon steel and thermally treated
to provide 45 Rockwell C Hardness. It is used in steel structures and castings, impact
cleaning works and in surface cold treatments known as shot peening to increase fatigue
strength. Excellent Abrasive for blasting operation in Wheel Blast Machines and Blasting
operation in Blast Rooms, open blasting etc. Steel Shot can be recycled number of times.
