Detail Introduction and Design History]
Panton chair, Verner Panton,1959-1960
Danish designer VernerPanton spent many years thinking about how to produce a chairmoulded in one piece. Together with Vitra, he came up with thefirst prototypes in the 1960s and Panton Chair went into seriesproduction as of 1967.
Designed in the late 60’s byVerner Panton, this popular fluid futurist chair was the firstsingle material, single form injection moulded chair. It works wellwith most modern designs of table.
The Panton Chair by VernerPanton celebrated its 50th birthday anniversary in 2009 as itreached the half century mark. It’s amazing to see how manythings changed and advancements occurred within these fifty yearshowever this panton chair remained faithful to its originaldesign.
Verner Panton, a protégé ofArne Jacobsen had been experimenting with the idea of the PantonChair since 1956 as he sent his design to a furniture competitionheld by furniture firm WK- Möbel.
The Panton Chair hasdefinitely been our favorite; now it’s also children’s favoritechair! I guess that even after 50 years we’re thrilled withits single form design, the sleek yet elegant shape, the idea thatit is stackable, the vibrant and cheerful colors and the smoothcurves. We’ve seen panton chairs in houses, in nurseries, inhotels, in restaurants, we’ve even seem them in a church by Qubusand a Music Hall by Zaha Hadid …that’s what makes this chair alwaysso unique yet, so ordinary!
