Prior to this she hadbeen one of the "workhorses" of the Spanish fleet. She was namedafter the patron saint of Philip IV of Spain.
During her career she served in the Caribbean as part ofthe Flota de Indias, in the Portugues Armadadel Mar Océanoduring the war with France, and survivedthe Battle of the Downs conflict with The UnitedProvices (despite Spain losing in that conflict).
