Principle
Overvotlage, or regenerative voltage, occurs when the speed of themotor exceeds the set speed on the drive. This can happen in manycircumstances, such as slowing or stopping a process by reducingdrive speed, or in applications such as cranes or downhillconveyors where the process load constantly "pulls" themotor. When this happens the motor acts as a generator,causing the DC bus voltage to rise. This excess voltage must remainbelow the overvoltage trip point on the drive or the drive will"trip" on an overvoltage fault and potentially lose control of theprocess.
