EL Panel are frequently used as backlights toliquid crystal displays. They readily provide a gentle, evenillumination to the entire display while consuming relativelylittle electric power. This makes them convenient forbattery-operated devices such as automotive instrument panel,pagers, wristwatches, computer, gifts etc -controlled thermostatsand their gentle green-cyan glow is a common sight in thetechnological world. They do, however, require relatively highvoltage (best between 90 and 120 volts). For battery-operateddevices, this voltage must be generated by a converter circuitwithin the device. Electroluminescent lights operate in thisfashion. Brightness per unit area increases with increased voltageand frequency.
