Magnetostrictive Linear Position Sensorsfor Test Machine
Test machines requireaccurate, real-time position measurements in order to providerealistic simulation of movement and reliably represent the desiredbehaviour of objects undergoing the test. For this reason,Temposonics magnetostrictive linear-position sensors are designedwith a high quality measuring signal for applications that needhigh sampling rates and dynamiccontrol.

What is Magnetostriction?
How magnetostrictiveprinciple works?
1. Ferromagnetic sensing element(waveguide)
A current pulse is sent throughthe waveguide.
2. Position Magnet
Mounted on movable part whoseposition has to be measured.
No mechanical contact towaveguide, absolutely wear-free measurement.
3. The interaction of twomagnetic fields produces a mechanical strain pulse, which travelsat ultrasonic speed along the sensing element.
4. A mechanical pulse convertersystem generates an electric signal.
5. The electric pulse isprocessed by the sensor electronics.
6. The magnetic position isdetermined accurately by speed measurement, whereby the magnetposition is a function between start and stop.
