A clear, colourless, slightly viscous, sterile solutioncontaining 1% w/v ivermectin (10 mg/mL).

Uses

Alstomec Injection is indicated for the effective treatment andcontrol of the following harmful parasites of cattle and pigs:

Cattle - Gastrointestinal roundworms (adult and fourth stagelarvae): Ostertagia spp (including inhibited O.ostertagi), Haemonchus placei, Trichostrongylusaxei, Trichostrongylus colubriformis,Cooperia spp, Oesophagostomum radiatum,Nematodirus helvetianus (adult), N. spathiger(adult). Lungworms (adult and fourth stage larvae):Dictyocaulus viviparus. Warbles (parasitic stages):Hypoderma bovis and H. lineatum. Mange mites:Psoroptes bovis, Sarcoptes scabiei var.bovis. Sucking lice: Linognathus vituli,Haematopinus eurysternus. The use of the product in cattleshould take into account geographical differences in the occurrencepatterns of parasites.

Pigs - Gastrointestinal worms (adult and fourth stage larvae):Ascaris suum, Hyostrongylus rubidus, Oesophagostomum spp,Strongyloides ransomi (adult and somatic larval stage).Lungworms: metastrongylus spp. (adult). Lice:Haematopinus suis. Mange mites Sarcoptes scabiei var.suis.

Dosage and administration

Each mL contains 10 mg of ivermectin sufficient to treat50 kg bodyweight of cattle, and 33 kg bodyweight of pigs.Replace with a fresh sterile needle after every 10 to 12 animals.Massage the injection site after administration of the product.Injection of wet or dirty animals is not recommended.

Cattle - Alstomec Injection should be given only by subcutaneousinjection at the recommended dosage level of 200 microgramivermectin per kg bodyweight under the loose skin in front of, orbehind, the shoulder in cattle. This is equivalent to 1 mL per50 kg bodyweight. The volume administered per injection siteshould not exceed 10 mL.

Pigs - The recommended dosage level is 300 microgram ivermectinper kg bodyweight. This is equivalent to 1 mL per 33 kgbodyweight. The recommended route of administration is bysubcutaneous injection into the neck.

Young Pigs - Especially those below 16 kg for which lessthan 0.5 mL Alstomec Injection is indicated, dosing accuratelyis important. The use of a syringe that can accurately deliver aslittle as 0.1 mL is recommended.

Contra-indications, warnings, etc

Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to the activeingredient. Do not administer by intravenous or intramuscularroute.

Alstomec has been formulated specifically for use in cattle andpigs only. Dogs and cats may be adversely affected by theconcentration of active substance in this product if they areallowed to ingest spilled product or have access to usedcontainers.

Alstomec injection can be administered to beef cows at any stageof pregnancy or lactation provided that the milk is not intendedfor human consumption. It can be used in breeding sows and boarsand will not affect fertility. Alstomec injection can be given toall ages of animals including young calves and piglets.

Withdrawal periods: Cattle - must notbe treated within 42 days of slaughter for human consumption. Donot use in cattle producing milk for human consumption or in dairycows within 60 days prior to calving. Pigs - must not be treatedwithin 28 days of slaughter for human consumption.

EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO FISH AND AQUATIC LIFE. Do not contaminatesurface waters or ditches with the product or used container.

Pharmaceutical precautions

Administer the product only subcutaneously because intramuscularadministration causes persistent drug residues at the site ofinjection.

This product does not contain an antimicrobial preservative.This product must not be mixed with other veterinary medicinalproducts. Avoid the introduction of contamination during use. Swabseptum before removing each dose. Following withdrawal of the firstdose, use the product within 28 days.

Any unused veterinary medicinal product or waste materialsderived from such veterinary medicinal products should be disposedof in accordance with local requirements.
