Generally, tissue factor is an integral membrane glycoproteinexpressed in the plasma membrane of many cell types. It plays animportant, physiological role in hemostasis and thrombogenesis.When the body is injured, tissue factor becomes exposed to blood atthe site of vascular injury, combines with FVIIa, a protein inserum, to form complex, and then initiates blood coagulation. Inrecent years, many investigations have shown that the increasedserum level of tissue factor is closely associated with manyserious diseases such as acute coronary syndrome, atherosclerosis,disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), and some malignantsolid tumors. In addition, tissue factor has many other biologicalactivities, for example, it is involved in many signaling pathways,including those related to inflammatory response, angiogenesis, andcell migration.
