R-134a (1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane) is a clear, colorless gaswith a faint ethereal odor. As a non-ozone-depleting,environmentally safer single component HFC refrigerant, it is avery efficient and safe replacement for R-12 in severalair-conditioning and refrigeration applications. R-134a possessessimilar energy efficiency and capacity characteristics as R-12, hasan intrinsically low toxicity, and is recognized as a superiorlong-term solution in many applications. It can be used inautomotive air conditioning, appliances, small stationaryequipment, medium temperature supermarket cases, and industrial andcommercial chillers.
