Function: Most data on clinical efficacy is derived from Chinesestudies. Clinical evidence exists to support the use of Astragalusfor immune-stimulating, immune-restorative effects; in patientswith viral myocarditis, intramuscular injections of Astragalusextract increased Natural Killer cell titres, and elevated alphaand gamma interferon levels. In patients whit coronary heartdisease (CHD)and acute myocardial infarction (AMI), Astragalusextracts had a positive effect on ventricular output, reducedfatigue and dyspnea (shortness of breath), and lower mortality inAMI patients.
