Electronic information lock is a programmable data storagedevice, which is commonly used as a wagon door lock. Itsinformation can be accessed and retrieved via a fixed track side orhandheld reader or PC.

Electronic lock consist of antenna, integrated circuit chip,metal lock clasp and lock bar.

It can identify lock number and other saved information of lockat high speed. Stored information includes: Lock id, wagon id/name,wagon origin, wagon destination, wagon cargo etc. Informationstored in the lock is read by the track side readers as the trainpasses. Trackside readers are installed on both sides of the railtrack and the lock information is automatically captured, read andtransmitted to a control room. This information can be integratedinto the rail operator''s management system, providing real timeinformation for further processing and monitoring.

The infomation lock can also be read by using the portable handheld reader whilst the train is stationary. It is also used formanual reading where an operator actually walks the train andquickly reads/scans each information lock. This information can bedirectly transmitted to the main control room.
