How to choose insulating glass (IG) desiccant?
)The resident moisture of molecular sieve should be as low aspossible. This would give IG an extreme low dew point level (muchlower dew point, more drier reached). It is the only function fordesiccant to keep the air in the panes of glass to be very dry (avery low dew-point ), any other desiccant such as active alumina, clay desiccant, silica gel, lime or any other adsorbent can notreach to such dry level whereas molecular sieve can. Delta T valuetest would give a rough indicating for variant drying level ofdifferent desiccant above. Under ideal condition, molecular sievecan reach - 80 ºC dew point; It will keep IG at -60 ºC dew point atthe whole life-span of IG.
)The dust of molecular sieve should be as low as possible, thiswould keep the glass clean and transparent, and also, it would givethe work shop environment of IGU clean and healthy. If the dustdrop of IG desiccant is high, it would cause IG dirty, and make itimpossible to be cleaned again, because the dust have already beensealed in and bad quality molecular sieve would release dustcontinuously, this would become a real annoying problem.
)Molecular sieve should not adsorb any air component other thanmoisture. This would protect IGU from distortion caused bytemperature changing of weather.
)Also, molecular sieve should have enough crushing strength andlow abrasion, this would protect the sieve less dust generating andthe bead not crushed after long-time transportation or fillingprocess. Natergy desiccant gives lower dust level and fewer crushedbeads at the end of delivery site. You can find the appearance isquite different from others only after a glance.
)The moisture (water) adsorptive capacity (MAC) of molecular sieveshould be good enough, this parameter tells how effective ofmolecular sieve desiccant, please notice the MAC should show therelative humidity conditions of testing. If relative humidity ishigh (say RH=60% or above), though the MAC is good, it will notmean the molecular sieve is certainly good, only when the MAC isstill high at low relative humidity (say RH=30% or below), we haveto say the desiccant is really good. For example, the MAC ofNatergy desiccant is 19% Min. At RH=60%, and 16.5% at RH=10%. Baddesiccant cannot show you this parameter. MAC parameter is veryimportant, because it tells how long the IGU made with suchdesiccant would last.
)Delta T Value will give rough general quality information of IGdesiccant. It reflects water adsorption capacity, the residentmoisture content, the adsorption velocity. Generally, higher DeltaT value shows better quality result. Please notice that differenttest method gives different results of delta T Value: If 25ml waterpoured into 25g molecular sieve, the delta T is high; 10ml waterpoured into 10g molecular sieve, the result is low. For example,Natergy desiccant is at 50 ºC min. At 25ml water/25g sieve;38ºCmin. At 10ml water/10g sieve.
