1.Description
Black silicon carbide is produced at high temperature in anelectric resistance type furnace with quarts sand and petroleumcoke as its main raw materials. Its hardness is between fusedalumina and synthetic diamond. Mechanical intensity of it is higherthan fused alumina. It is brittle and sharp and has electrical andheat conductivity in some degree. The abrasives made of it aresuitable for working on cast iron, non-ferrous metal, rock,leather, rubber, etc. It is also broadly used as refractorymaterial and metallurgical additive.
