CE marking (originally EC mark) is a mandatory conformity mark forproducts placed on the market in the European Economic Area (EEA).With the CE marking on a product the manufacturer ensures that theproduct conforms with the essential requirements of the applicableEC directives. The letters "CE" stand for "Conformite Europeenne"("European Conformity").
Existing in its present form since 1993, the CE marking is a keyindicator of a product''s compliance with EU legislation andenables the free movement of products within the European market.By affixing the CE marking on a product, a manufacturer isdeclaring, on one''s sole responsibility, conformity with all ofthe legal requirements to achieve CE marking and therefore ensuringvalidity for that product to be sold throughout the EuropeanEconomic Area. This also applies to products made in thirdcountries which are sold in the EEA.
