How toTroubleshoot Portable DVD Player
If you''re traveling any distance and your portable DVD playerstops working, follow these steps to troubleshoot the gear beforeyour children go ballistic.

Instructions:
1. Check the power cord to ensure it is plugged into the electricaloutlet or your car''s AC adapter. Also make sure the cord is firmlyplugged in to the portable DVD player itself.

2. Check the batteries to see if they need to be recharged orreplaced.

3. Try cleaning the DVD if you get a "no disc" message. The DVDmay be too dirty for your portable DVD player to read it. A fewdrops of rubbing alcohol and a gentle swirling motion with alint-free cloth will remove most dirt, dust and fingerprints fromthe DVD.

4. Insert a different DVD and test the portable DVD player. Theproblem might be with a disc and not your portable machine.

5. Clean the portable DVD player''s laser lens with acommercially available product such as a Memorex lens cleaner. Thelens cleaner looks like a regular DVD, but has a tiny brush builtinto the underside. The brush rotates rapidly over the portable DVDplayer''s laser lens to remove dust and dirt that accumulates withregular use.

6. Adjust the image setting if the picture seems distorted andyour portable DVD player is equipped with this feature. Someportable DVD players allow you to switch from a regular view towide-screen or anamorphic view, which optically stretches the videoto the shape of the original theatrical presentation. If your DVDis not wide-screen but full frame, the image will appear to becompressed.

Warnings:
Before committing to a repair, find out the cost of a new portableDVD player. It may be less expensive than trying to repair an olderone.
