Silica bricks are available in two types: For coke ovens and for general use. Those for coke ovens are manufactured by controlling the gain size, carefully monitoring the transformation of tridymite and the amount of residual silica, and by thorough firing. Using a wide range of materials and fabrication methods, general-purpose bricks are manufactured in different product types for use in variety of furnaces such as hot-blast stoves, glass furnaces, EAF, reverberatory copper furnaces, and soaking pits.
