In todays market, electronic products are continually being designed smaller and lighter. One way to reduce size is by using low profile keypads for data input. These low profile keypads, whether rubber or IMD, are normally non-tactile and non-conductive. Tactile feel and conductivity are provided by two basic methods, Polymer Flex Domes and metal Domes.

We furnishes Polymer Flex Domes made of sturdy polyester. These domes provide excellent tactile feel simulating that of mechanical switches. Conductivity of the switches can be provided by three methods: Silver ink, silver ink covered with carbon ink (to prevent silver migration), and carbon ink only. Silver ink provides the lowest contact resistance of the three.

In addition to providing tactile feel and the conductivity for switch closure, the polyester layer helps retard the harmful penetration of human oils and other substances. These substances can be absorbed by, and then penetrate through, a silicone keypad. The barrier formed by the polyester keeps these substances from coating the PCB preventing switch closure.
