Bile acids are produced in the liver from cholesterol. The major functions of bile acids are to assist in the solubilization ,emulsification and utilization of fats and fat-soluble vitamins. The addition of bile acids to aquaculture feeds has three major benefits:
Functions:
1 increase lipid and sterol utilization, decrease feed conversion ratio and promote growth
Addition of bile acids to the diet is likely to increase the efficiency of sterol and cholesterol uptake though emulsification and solubilization of these lipids.
2 protect liver and gallbladder, prevent fatty liver syndrome
3 improve the ability of anti-stress and help to decrease the death rate during tansportation
4 for crustaceans and turtles , adding bile acid can increase cholesterol utilization and promote transformation .
